Assemblymember Suzette Martinez-Valladares, R-Santa Clarita, has spoken out again on the high gas prices as they have spiked to over $6 a gallon.
With the largest overnight price increase last week in seven years, gas prices in California have surged past $6 per gallon again, Valladares said.
“On average, California’s drivers are paying over $2.50 more per gallon of gas than drivers in the rest of the country. At a time when inflation has hit record highs, these prices are unacceptable and unfair to residents,” Valladares said.
Earlier this year, Valladares co-authored AB 2457 to suspend the gas tax for a year, saving drivers billions of dollars.
“Unfortunately, politicians in Sacramento refused to bring this bill up for a vote,” she said. “Instead, the legislature passed SB 1137, a bill that industry experts say will increase gas prices. This bill will require California to import nearly all of its oil, significantly driving up the cost of gas.”
Similarly, the Governor signed SB 339 into law, creating a tiered tax system based on the number of miles driven, according to the assemblywoman.
“We need to pass laws that make California more affordable — not laws that continue to hammer working families with higher costs,” Valladares said. “It is an honor to represent you in the State Assembly. The California government sets the supply of gas available. They are very restrictive and only buy oil from overseas companies. It is the Climate Change BS. There are no oil pipelines in California and Newsom and the Democrats are doing everything to close down the oil fields, both inland and in the ocean.With dwindling supplies and shutdowns for “winter gas”, prices and taxes raise. The California gas tax is a punitive tax like that on cigarettes. The Democrats want you to stop using cigarettes and gas.
Gas prices in Texas are $2.59 a gallon. They produce oil and have pipelines, unlike here in California.

Germany is a lot like California. They are betting on climate change with solar and wind. They have eliminated local natural gas. They must import it from Russia. Germany gets a whole lot colder than California, and needs to heat their homes. Stupid people claim global warming while the outside temperatures below zero. There is a hurricane in Florida. Gas prices in Florida are $3.20 a gallon. In California it is double, $6.40 a gallon. The prices and markets are controlled by the state regulations that California must have its own blend of gas.
Prices and markets are NEVER under state control in ANY Capitalist economy. California does have taxes and formulation regulations, and better controls over refinery pollution, but refined gas is piped into the state too. It is reall difficult arguing with someone who just does not get IT, and does not Know they DONT GET IT.
Look it up. Gas in California is double the price of Texas & Florida.

The majority of California’s crude oil is imported from Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Colombia.
Texas is the energy capital of the world and is responsible for 43% of the oil production in America, 26% of natural gas. If Texas were it’s own country we’d be the third largest natural gas producing country in the world.
Florida has no significant pipelines, most gasoline is barged in from the Gulf Coast. The cost of bringing fuel into Florida is higher due to the absence of both refineries and pipelines.

Stop being ignorant. Do your homework. These absurd prices have nothing to do with “liberals” or “conservatives”. It’s not political. It’s big oil companies’ greed. The white house has nothing to do with WORLD WIDE gas prices. In fact we’re lower than most countries. This is a systemic problem with greed and oil. We have to fix it, we can all agree on that.
Actually it does as just two short years ago, the US was a major supplier and energy independent. This supply stability kept world prices in check. Biden unilaterally dismantled this position and is again relying on foreign oil. By removing capacity and a stable supplier, we are more at the mercy of OPEC like the 70’s. Same policies that created that condition are creating this one. A lack of desire to produce energy from sources other than renewables. While an admirable goal, it has to be balanced with current state of technology. When you overcorrect, this is what happens.

Who has to move it to refine it, then refine it, and move it to the stations to sell it to the consumer. Sorry you think that way, but the taxes on the gas, and especially the diesel, are higher than in any other state. But, what do we get for that? An infrastructure that is not properly maintained. We are capable of supplying a great deal of our own oil for processing into gas and diesel but refineries are shuttered and oil fields are shutdown for the sake of the “environment”; but our fuel is brought in on trucks everyday. So anything to reduce the price would be helpful and before you suggest that I get an EV or Hybrid – I’m already paying over 400 dollars a month to cool (temp set at 80 degrees at night 85 during the day), run my freezer, fridge, and lights. An EV would add another 350 to 400 dollars to my bill.
Evaporative cooling would reduce your cooling costs. I have several patio cooling appliances blowing cooled air into and through my house. Green costs you MONEY. You pay in advance for the money you will save on gas with a Prius (Japanese word for GO AROUND).

As long as the current government refuses to permit more drilling and more refineries to be built, the prices will remain high. The real reason gas prices rise is because they can. That’s all there is to it. When a politician says their going to launch an investigation or do a study…it doesn’t change anything. They do this every year. Nothing becomes of it and the information is already available. By the way…. Who’s really pulling in the big bucks on the oil? Well that’d be California’s government. Do you really think anyone else is pulling in 54 or more cents per gallon of profit? Not the drillers. Not the trucking companies. Not the Refiners. So Newsome knows he’s reducing California’s profit by decreasing the oil consumption. This is why he is introducing a new Energy Tax.
