Valladares Concedes To Schiavo In State Assembly Race

Democratic challenger Pilar Schiavo has won the race for California’s 40th Assembly District (AD-40), after incumbent Assemblywoman Suzette Martinez-Valladares, R-Santa Clarita, conceded on Wednesday.

Valladares announced her concession on social media on Wednesday morning, after the most recent vote count was made available by the Los Angeles County Registrar/Recorder’s Office.

“I have been truly blessed to represent the people of the (former) 38th Assembly District in the California State Assembly,” said Valladares.

The race between Schiavo and Valladares has been a tight one, with the candidate in the lead flip-flopping several times since election night on Nov. 8.

As of Tuesday, Nov. 29, Schiavo held a lead of only 545 votes.

“Against all odds only a few hundred votes separate my opponent and me,” said Valladares. “I am extremely honored by the confidence of so many Republican, Democrat, and Independent voters. Ours is a great electoral system.”

Schiavo declared victory in the race to represent the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding areas last week, marking her as one of a small handful of Democratic legislative candidates in California to flip a seat from a Republican incumbent, according to her campaign.

“I am so proud of the campaign we ran and I am so honored to be entrusted by the voters of Assembly District 40 to represent them in Sacramento. As a single mom, it was terrifying to quit my job to run for assembly,” said Assemblymember-elect Schiavo. But from day one, we focused on the issues that matter most to our community, which are also the very reason I ran for office – to fight for good jobs, guaranteed healthcare, housing we can afford, real solutions to homelessness, and an economy that works for everyone. In the end, our authenticity and passion to deliver for our community won against the millions we were up against.”

County officials across the state of California have until Friday, Dec. 9 to report their final results to the state. The state then has one week from that deadline to certify the results of the 2022 election.

  1. Sadly we can now expect more blight, homelessness, and closed businesses as Schiavo is aligned with the Biden-Pelosi-Newsome policies that have brought this to so much of the rest of the Country.

  2. 27 Days later. Santa Clarita gets cheated. We have another scumbag Representing us.

  3. She has to get to work destroying one of the few decent areas left around Los Angeles.

  4. Really disappointed about this as Assembly Woman Valladares could actually speak for those of us in the semi-rural areas of LA County. I followed Schiavo on her messaging and she did not address any concerns of property owners; her “plans” for good jobs was to raise the minimum wage – again -; try to force us all into universal health care – I have Kaiser and typically wait a month to get an appointment or sent to ER where I will get charged 10,000 dollars for going to a Kaiser ER, that is a taste of what UHC would be like. And raise taxes on property owners – by circumventing prop. 13 tax laws – to get the “wealthy” to pay for homeless relief and a “better” economy. Can’t wait to retire and get out of this hopeless state.

  5. It’s ironic they call themselves “Democrats” when they’ve eliminated Democracy in most of America. They just asked the Registrar how many votes Valladares was ahead by and printed up that many ballots (plus 545) and submitted them to the “ballot harvesters.” The people who brought us high inflation, high crime, and open borders couldn’t win otherwise.

Over 200 years of successful democracy destroyed by the autocratic Democrats.

  6. So if a Democrat wins, it’s cheating, but if a Republican you like wins, it isn’t. Interesting…

  7. Because another libtarded Karen is what we need right now. SMH

  8. When will people realize democrats are not for the average working American !

  9. Oh nooooooo with the republican out of office, now who will KHTS write their insipid puff pieces on?????

  10. Shiavio is a groomed no-body of the DemonicTaxRats.
She is a “formula” liberal candidate: female Latina for appearance and marketing sake. She is another Pelosi Puppet.
She is a brand poster girl with no redeeming capability.
More Socislism demagoguery : VOTE for me and Nancy will tell you what you voted for! This is not de-mock-racey leadership.
Just wait for her naked bong photos and polyamorous shinanigans.

  11. Just what once decent SCV needs, Liberals infiltrate & change this to SFV/LA, Good ole Liberal redistricting!

  12. Yuk, another Barbara Ferrer uncombed/unkempt Liberal hair to bring down our decent society!
