Wilk Introduces Bill To Help The Homeless Get Off The Streets

Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, announced SB 31, which would compassionately clear encampments and connect homeless individuals with services to break the cycle of chronic homelessness.

“California’s homelessness crisis is spiraling out of control,” Wilk said. “Many individuals are trapped in a cycle of drug abuse and mental illness without getting the help they need.”

This crisis has now spread to locations outside of our schools, parks and childcare centers, putting our most vulnerable at risk, according to Wilk.

But Wilk feels there is hope.

“I am proud to introduce Senate Bill 31, which will compassionately clear encampments and connect individuals with desperately needed services to break the cycle of chronic homelessness,” Wilk said. “This bill balances accountability with compassion and is a critical step towards ending California’s homelessness crisis.”

Wilk is asking for support in this effort, by signing his petition.

Doing so, you will join Wilk in urging policymakers to support SB 31 and help ensure communities thrive.

“Please take a moment to sign our petition and share it with your friends and family,” Wilk said. “Together, we can make a difference and help those in need.”

  1. A bigger broom?

  2. Mr. Wilk,

Until there are more beds in mental hospitals the homeless problem will NOT be solved. Most shelters will Not accept those using drugs or other substance. Sad to say some of these homeless are our most honored
Vets. The VA needs to step up and address and really help.

  3. Scott,
This bill does nothing to stop or slow vagrancy (oops homelessness). It only moves them to new locations.
Try writing a bill that would require drug enhancement sentencing for those arrested (you know, like gun enhancement sentencing) so these people can be put in controlled environments (like jail) for a long enough time to dry them out for good then you can enact your charity ( I mean services).

  4. Mark, Agree 100%! Build more jails, rehab & mental institutions!!

  5. these people don’t want to follow rules, they want what they can get, and do what they want

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess. Carl was one of the first Americans to come down with Covid-19. Months earlier he was impacted by Guillain Barre Syndrome as a result of a Shingles vaccine in September 2019. He is still in recovery from the vaccine.
