Senator Wilk Secures Approval To Expedite Consumer Relief On High Natural Gas Bills

On Friday, Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, secured approval to expedite consumer relief on the high natural gas bills that arrived in California resident’s mailboxes.

The decision follows a letter sent from Wilk and the California Legislative Republicans to California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) urging the commission to approve and disburse state credit.

As a result of legislative pressure from Senate Republicans as well as the L.A. County Board of Supervisors, who called for an investigation of the bills, the CPUC voted to pay the annual gas and electric credit to consumers as soon as possible.

“Families in my district are already struggling with expensive gasoline, food and rent prices,” said Wilk. “A natural gas bill that’s two or three times higher than usual is simply not okay. I’m thankful for the CPUC’s quick action in getting this credit out and providing people in need with much-needed relief.”

Depending on the utility company, this year’s credit is scheduled to run between $29 and $132 per qualifying customer. The SoCal Gas credit, for example, is estimated to be $50.77.

  1. How about shutting down the PUC from raising prices on electrical 1st tier? Y’all had to push the solar issue, yet, when edison whined about not making any money PUC signed off on raising the lower level rates!

  2. Two to three times higher? Lol. Try 5-7 times higher! And fifty bucks isn’t going to make a dent in the HUNDREDS of dollars people are being charged! Between myself and friends, the increases range anywhere from $200 to almost $900. How about press criminal charges for a monopoly? Or charges for price gouging? Wouldn’t be the first time SoCalGas have been charged, prosecuted and found guilty for crimes.

  3. So my bill went from $150.00 to $ 500.00 and I will get about $50.00 back, and it is money I would have gotten back in April anyway’ s How does that help really???

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess. Carl was one of the first Americans to come down with Covid-19. Months earlier he was impacted by Guillain Barre Syndrome as a result of a Shingles vaccine in September 2019. He is still in recovery from the vaccine.
