JCI Santa Clarita Celebrates Success Of Award-Winning Community Projects

Junior Chamber International (JCI) Santa Clarita chapter members gathered on Zoom in early June to watch their chapter receive numerous awards at the JCI USA  2019 Year End Awards Ceremony.

It was an “overwhelming” night for JCI Santa Clarita as members, also known as “Jaycees” gathered on a Zoom call to watch the JCI USA 2019 Year End Awards ceremony online.

On Friday, June 5, JCI Santa Clarita received its first win when one member, Sharlene Duzick, won the award for “Top Recruiter (10+ Members)” category. Moments later the JCI chapter was recognized again for achieving more than 90% efficiency in Civic Leadership Certification (CLC), a program that serves as a guide for running a healthy, thriving chapter.

As the evening went on, JCI Santa Clarita chapter’s project “Santa’s Helpers” was awarded the top Local Community Empowerment Program for supporting more than 300 underprivileged children during the holidays.

“It was amazing to see our chapter recognized nationally for our members’ and communities partners’ efforts for the impacts we were able to make together in 2019,” said Daniela Echaiz, who served as Director of Social Media Marketing last year.

The chapter celebrated another huge win with their project “Marketing Matters” when it was announced as the top Local Growth & Development Project, recognizing the chapter’s efforts in public relations.

“It was so amazing,” said Alexander Hafizi, VP of Marketing and Communications. “Our team in 2019 were all go-getters and every project we did we seemed to do it very well. I am so honored that we won all of the awards we won.”

More significantly, Santa’s Helpers and Marketing Matters were both featured on the list of the “Top 9 Projects” in the nation. These two projects are now eligible to compete with other projects listed in the “Top 9” for “Project of the 2019 Year” award later this fall.

“It is rare to have two projects in the final category,” noted JCI USA Metro and Extensions Director Neil Fitzgerald.

The other wins of the night include California Jaycees State President Jessper Maquindang who was awarded with the highest “10th Degree” honor for completion of the Passport of Civic Leadership Program, a roadmap that provides members with the opportunity to maximize their leadership experience.

The national organization also revealed JCI Santa Clarita’s “Membership Moments” as one of the Top 3 Local Growth & Development Programs Selected at JCI Conference of the Americas which will further compete on the global stage at JCI World Congress

“I’m so proud of our team and how much they were able to accomplish in just a year,” said Taylor Kellstrom, Chairman of the Board and Immediate Past President. “There is no substitute for hard work and our team worked very hard to make so much great happen.”

JCI Santa Clarita is a local chapter of the Junior Chamber International, a nonprofit organization that empowers young people to create positive change.
