Five New Fire Stations To Be Developed In Santa Clarita

A plan adopted by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is set to increase developer fees in unincorporated areas of the Santa Clarita Valley in order to pay for the development of five new fire stations.

During Tuesday’s regular meeting of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the board adopted a plan that would increase developer fees by four percent per square foot in order to finance five new fire stations within the Santa Clarita Valley.

“The developer fee rate includes a component to recoup the Districts costs associated with financing the five new fire stations in the Santa Clarita Valley,” wrote Los Angeles County Fire Department Chief Daryl Osby in a letter to the board. “The cumulative financing costs, equipment costs and administrative costs associated with the developer fee program have resulted in a four percent increase to the fee rate in this area only.”

The increase is set to take effect on April 1, and raises the developer fee rate in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County Benefit Area 2 (which includes the Santa Clarita Valley) from $1.2357 to $1.2831 per square foot of new development, according to county documents.

The funds raised by the development fee increase are set to help offset the cost of building five new fire stations within the Santa Clarita Valley: Stations 175, 176, and 177 in the Five Point Valencia development, Station 178 in the Lyons Ranch development, and Station 133 in the Gate-King Industrial Park Development, according to officials.

Station 175 is set to house both an engine and a squad car in a 10,500 square-foot facility in the Landmark Village area, while Stations 176 and 177 are both set to house an engine and a quint in an 11,500 square-foot facility, according to officials.

Station 176 is set to be located in the Potrero Valley area of the development, and Station 177 is set to be located in the Mission Village project area, according to county documents.

While Station 179 is set to house one engine in a 10,000 square-foot facility in the Lyons Ranch development, the exact location of the site is currently still being determined as of Friday.

Similarly, Station 133 is also set to house an engine in a 10,000 square-foot facility near Eternal Valley Memorial Park as part of the Gate-King Industrial Park development, according to officials.
