Hazmat Incident Under Investigation As Possible Illegal Dumping

The report of a hazardous material leaking in a commerce center near Castaic is being investigated as possible illegal dumping, officials said.

Around 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, reports came in of three unidentified 55-gallon drums on the 28000 block of Industry Drive, prompting a response from Los Angeles County Fire personnel to investigate, according to L.A. County Fire officials.

“Many times, we find that people will do illegal dumping throughout the County of Los Angeles, and they’ll leave the products out, and other people have to be responsible for them,” said a captain with LACOFD Health and HazMat.

The workers came out and found three barrels that were by the building that did not belong to the products that the building actually uses in their manufacturing.

As of 10:25, no leaks in the drums have been reported, however, their contents remain unknown, according to L.A. County Fire spokesperson Marvin Lim.

While no leaks have been reported, the investigation remains on-going according to Lim.
