Officials with the California Highway Patrol made no arrests during a DUI checkpoint in Santa Clarita Friday night, with only two citations issued for unlicensed driving, officials said.
On Friday night, officers with the CHP Newhall Office conducted a DUI checkpoint on The Old Road at Constitution Avenue, according to Officer Eric Priessman, spokesman for the CHP Newhall Office.
“We’re looking for impaired drivers and conducting license checks,” Priessman said.
While no arrests were made for impaired driving at the checkpoint, two citations were issued for unlicensed driving, according to Priessman.
“The checkpoint is an announced event, so it’s not a pop-up where no one knows about it,” Priessman said.
Even though arrest totals usually do not rise dramatically during checkpoints, the “psychological influence” a checkpoint has on the motoring public is “invaluable,” CHP officials said.

Additionally, Priessman said that CHP officers regularly look for impaired drivers as part of their regular patrol duties.
“We want folks to know that we are out there looking for impaired drivers,” Priessman said. “It is one of our priorities.”
