Retired Firefighter Set To Offer Tips On Major Natural Disasters

The Castaic Lions Club is set to partner up with a retired firefighter at the end of April in an effort to give Santa Clarita residents safety tips on what to do during major emergencies, officials said Tuesday.

On April 30, Steve Skinner, a retired Los Angeles County firefighter, is set to give a presentation at Castaic Middle School on how to react during emergencies that could strike at any time, according to Castaic Lions Club officials.

“You and your family will be trained on the most up-to-date strategies on how to handle events such as fire, earthquakes and active shooters,” Lions Club officials said. “You will learn everything from the safest evacuation routes to how to handle panicked peers from a trained Los Angeles County firefighter.”

Food is set to be provided starting at 6:30 p.m., and the presentation is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

If residents have any questions about the event, they can email info@castaiclionsclub.org

Castaic Middle School is located at 28900 Hillcrest Parkway in Castaic.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
