A voluntary recall has been issued for Jif Peanut Butter due to a potential Salmonella contamination.

The J.M. Smucker Company announced Friday it is to recall some Jif Peanut Butter products sold in the United States, including in Santa Clarita, due to potential contamination with Salmonella.

“Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” said a company announcement. “Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.”

Those who have recall products are told to throw them out as soon as possible.

In some rare cases, Salmonella can also enter the bloodstream and produce more severe illnesses like arterial infections and arthritis.

Recalled products include products with lot codes 1274425 through 2140425. Lot codes can be found next to the best-if-used-by date.
