Former COC Football Player Domata Peko Signs With Arizona Cardinals

Former College of the Canyons football player Domata Peko announced he has signed with the Arizona Cardinals on Monday afternoon.

Peko, now in his 15th NFL season, joins the fourth team of his professional career with his move to Arizona.

He announced the signing in a tweet and shared his excitement.

“Just want to say thank you Lord. Thank you to my wife Anna and my kids for always supporting me throughout my career, love you,” wrote Peko. “I’m so excited and proud to announce I officially signed with the Arizona Cardinals for my 15 season! Can’t wait to do my job and help us win games.”

Peko finished his 2019 season with the Baltimore Ravens with 14 tackles after signing with the team midway through the season, but showed he still has gas in the tank at 35 years old.

In August, it was reported that Peko had received multiple offers but had been waiting for the right opportunity, according to the NFL Network.

The longtime veteran of the league will provide some much-needed depth on the defensive front for the Cardinals, where the team has been hit with a flurry of injuries this season in that area of the field.

Outside linebacker Isaiah Irving suffered a neck injury in Thursday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks and previous injuries to defensive tackles Jordan Phillips and rookie Rashard Lawrence, who was placed on injured reserve, have created a serious need for a team with playoff aspirations.

While coming off a close division loss to the Seattle Seahawks, at 6-4 in closely contested NFC West and with second-year quarterback Kyler Murray at the helm of the offense, the Cardinals still remain in the hunt for the playoffs.

Peko’s football journey reaches back to his playing days at College of the Canyons from 2002 to 2003 after he traveled from his home in American Samoa to pursue his football dreams.

He went on to have a huge impact on the Cougars program and was named a Junior College All-American, first-team All-State and the Western State Conference Player of the Year at COC in 2003 before he transferred to Michigan State to continue his playing career.

In 2017, Peko returned to the college to be inducted into the COC Hall of Fame.

Despite already earning his place in the COC history books, Peko continues to add chapters to the story of his playing career.
