Former Hart QB Brady White Sets Memphis Football Record For Passing Touchdowns

Former Hart High School quarterback Brady White set a new school record at the University of Memphis with his 82nd career passing touchdown for the Tigers in their 56-14 win over the Stephen F. Austin State University Lumberjacks on Saturday.

White went 18 of 31 for 269 yards and one touchdown in the dominant win against the Lumberjacks.

While less explosive than some of White’s other outings this season, the Tigers got the win and the senior QB’s single passing touchdown was enough to claim sole ownership of the school’s record for career passing touchdowns.

When discussing the accomplishment after the game, White was quick to point to teammates, coaches and the Memphis program for his success.

“I want to recognize my teammates and the coaches that have coached me,” said White in his postgame interview. “Without coming to this place, without having the coaches I’ve had gameplanning each opponent every week for the last three seasons, without having the offensive linemen, receivers, running backs, tight ends and everyone around me, I couldn’t be doing these things. I appreciate everyone that’s been involved and I feel very fortunate to have played at a high level and to break that. It’s really cool to be on the top of the mountain, on top of that list.”

The touchdown vaulted White ahead of Danny Wimprine in the record book, who quarterbacked for Memphis from 2000 to 2004 and sits atop many of the school’s all-time records.

“We’ve actually had a couple of conservations, he’s a super down to earth man, I really appreciate all of his support for not just myself but this entire program,” White said. “He’s mentioned that if I ever have any questions he’s made himself available.”

White shared a brief anecdote of an exchange he had with Wimprine after last season in which he told White “I’m looking forward to you breaking all my records.”

“And I hope that day comes,” White said. “But I appreciate him reaching out and having that communication and support from a great Tiger.”

White still has an opportunity to close in on the all-time yardage record and others with three games left in the regular season for Memphis.

Next, the Memphis Tigers (5-2) go on the road for their next game this Saturday in an important conference matchup against Navy (3-4).
