Former Santa Clarita Football Players Continue To Produce In NFL

With three weeks remaining in the National Football League’s 2020 season, KHTS Sports takes another swing around the league for the latest updates from the former Santa Clarita football players that have taken their talents to the highest levels of the sport.

Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown

Former College of the Canyons wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown has continued to shine in his sophomore season in the NFL as a member of the Baltimore Ravens.

Brown has been the Raven’s top receiving target this season, and leads the team in targets, receptions and receiving yards. So far this year, Brown has pulled in 55 receptions for 555 yards and four touchdowns.

In his most recent outing last week, with the return of Ravens starting quarterback Lamar Jackson after missing a game due to a positive test for COVID-19, Brown was able to snag five catches for 39 yards and a touchdown.

He’ll have an opportunity to add to those numbers on Monday night when the Baltimore Ravens (7-5) face off in a divisional game against the Cleveland Browns (9-3).

Domata Peko

Also representing the COC Cougars in the league is 15-year NFL veteran Domata Peko, who signed with the Arizona Cardinals in late November.

Injuries to the Cardinals pass rushers created an immediate opportunity for Peko who has taken advantage to show he still has gas left in the tank at 36 years old.

In his three games played since joining the Cardinals, Peko has recorded 10 total tackles, including a season-high seven in week 13 at home against the Los Angeles Rams.

After starting his tenure with his new team with a two-game losing streak, Peko finally secured his first win as a member of the team this past weekend in a 26-7 win on the road over the New York Giants to keep the Cardinals’ playoff hopes alive.

Jason Pierre-Paul

Former COC defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has been producing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 11th year of his NFL career as he continues to seek an opportunity to add more hardware to his trophy case which includes a Super Bowl ring as a member of the New York Giants in 2011.

Pierre-Paul has recorded 50 tackles in the 2020 season, including 9.5 sacks. He has also been able to force several turnovers so far this year with two interceptions, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, including a strip sack of Kirk Cousins in his most recent outing against the Minnesota Vikings.

Tedric Thompson

Valencia graduate Tedric Thompson has begun to experience the life of a journeyman in the NFL somewhat in the 2020 season.

Now in his fourth season in the league, Thompson had joined the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs this offseason on a one-year deal, and was afforded some opportunities to see the field with the team. He managed to record 13 tackles on the season, 11 solo and two assisted, in six appearances with the Chiefs before he was waived by the team on November 28.

Thompson was quickly claimed off of waivers by the Cleveland Browns two days later, but didn’t have enough time for practice with the team to have a realistic chance to see the field last week.

However, Thompson may have his first opportunity to get on the field for the Browns in their Monday night matchup against the Baltimore Ravens at 5:30 p.m.
