Women’s College World Series
Saugus alum and current Oklahoma Sooner Mariah Lopez is back in the College World Series for the second time in two years after the Sooners defeated Alabama to make the championship series. It’s the top ranked Sooners third CWS appearance in four years; after winning back-to-back titles in 2016 & 2017, they look to complete the dynasty in 2019.
As a freshman in 2017, Lopez pitched 2 and 1/3 innings in Game 2 against Florida, earning the championship-clinching victory.
It will be a battle of No. 1 vs the No. 2 UCLA Bruins, who coincidentally were the last team to beat Oklahoma earlier this season (7-1 in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic). OU has gone on a 41-game winning streak since.
Game 1 is tonight at 4:30 p.m. PST with Game 2 on Tuesday at 5:30. Game 3 will start at 5:30 on Wednesday if necessary.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers continue to roll, capping a series sweep of the National League East leading Philadelphia Phillies with an 8-0 shutout victory yesterday afternoon at Dodger Stadium.
Rich Hill turned in a stellar outing on the mound, pitching seven scoreless inning and fanning nine batters for his second win of the season.
L.A. leads the National League in team ERA, and it’s no wonder why. Churning out quality starts every time out takes so much pressure off of the offense, and the Dodgers bats are responding. And there’s no gimme for opposing teams.
They open a series tonight against Arizona and will pitch Walker Buehler, followed by Hyun-Jin Ryu (8-1) and Kenta Maeda (7-2).
First pitch is against the Diamondbacks is at 6:40, and be sure to listen live to every inning of action on KHTS FM 98.1.
