Hart Basketball Wins Big Over Golden Valley

Hart built a more than 20 point lead in the first half as they cruised to a bounce-back win against Golden Valley Friday night, 72-38.

It was a team effort for the Indians at home Friday night, as multiple players reached double-digit scoring for Hart.

“Well we played a lot harder tonight than we did Tuesday night,” said Hart head coach Tom Kelly. “Granted Saugus and G.V. are different teams, but I didn’t think we played very hard on Tuesday, tonight we played a lot harder.”

Ty Penberthy, Jaden Penberthy and Brady Dunlap each chipped in ten points for Hart.

Dillion Barrientos frequently initiated the offense for Hart, but also led his team with a high level of defensive intensity.

We were just playing together,” said Barrientos. “We played defense first instead of offense, we let the offense come to us after we play our ‘D’.”

Golden Valley meanwhile, struggled to create any offense for themselves all night.

In the third quarter, the Grizzlies only scored five points while Hart expanded their lead to 33 points.

By that point, Hart had pulled their starters, getting everyone on the Indian bench a chance to get in the game.

“We had two pretty tough practices Wednesday, Thursday, guys really going at each other, and I think it rolled over into guys really competing,” Kelly said.

Now Golden Valley remains winless in Foothill League, but Hart stays in the hunt for a chance to reach the postseason.

The Grizzlies will look to end their losing streak against Canyon Tuesday, while Hart has a tough road matchup against Valencia.

“Our goal is to just try and get better every game,” Kelly said. “Honestly, our goal is to try and be 1 and 0 after every game and let everything else fall into place.”
