Hart Boys Volleyball Team Continues To Win Even In The Offseason

Hart High School Boys’ Volleyball team received California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) recognition following a spectacular season.

Head coach for the Hart boys volleyball team Loy Mueller, received the honors of being named CIF Division 4 Coach of the Year, after coaching his team to their first Foothill league championship in 30 years alongside their Division 4 championship.

While a good coach is important to having a successful team the players are just as impactful.

Senior outside hitter for Hart, Owen Douphner, received the title of CIF Division 4 Player of the Year. Along with that, Douphner was also named the Foothill League Player of the Year.

“Owen is a player that works hard every single day and is always pushing himself to get better,” said Mueller. “It has been a lot of fun being his coach and watching him play at such a high level.”

Douphner led his team and the Foothill League in total blocks with 48 and serving aces with 61.

He also led the league in kills with 534, the second place Hank Kaufman had 371 kills.

“He (Douphner) is someone who makes everyone around him better. He is a great team player and captain,” said Mueller. “He also trusts his teammates to do their jobs, which allows him to focus on what he needs to do. He’s a total team player.”

During the playoffs, Douphner broke a Hart program record for the most kills in a single match.

Douphner has committed to play at Cal State University, Northridge (CSUN).

“Owen’s impact is something that the younger players of the programs look up to and will try to emulate,” said Mueller. “There are some varsity returners that will lead by example and it’ll take a total commitment to the process of rebuilding and restructuring in order to play at a high level immediately.”

Along with Coach of the Year and Player of the Year, Seniors Hank Kauffman and Isaac Kim received All CIF-SS honors.
