Hart High Represents SCV With Three Players Selected To The 2023-24 Baseball All CIF Team

By Matthew Marcotte

Hart High School stands alone in the valley as the only school with baseball players selected to the All-CIF SS team in 2024.

Troy Cooper (RHP), Ryan De La Meza (C, INF) and Ian Edwards (INF, RHP) were the three players placed on the Division 2 team. De La Meza was also named the Player of the Year.

It was an incredible year for the Hawks Baseball Team, to say the least. Not only did they have plenty of individual success, but they capped off an amazing season by winning the Division 2 championship game after defeating Moorpark 7-6 on Friday, May 17.

Winning the championship was a cherry on top for the 11th-ranked Hawks, who posted an impressive 26-5 campaign, which included two separate win streaks of 10 and 11 games.

Hart’s longtime coach, Jim Ozella, who was awarded coach of the year after the season, decided to hang it up after bringing the school its first championship in 25 years. An incredible way to wrap up a great career.

Although there was some controversy about how the game ended after a potential walk-off home run by Moorpark was later called back by the Umpires, it’s safe to say that Hart High and its players deserved this title after the remarkable run they had this season.

Division 2:
