Week Five

Downey (1-4): 13

Hart (3-2): 19

Hart took a 13-0 lead into halftime, but kept letting Downey hang around.

The Vikings scored midway through the third quarter, then executed an onside kick to get the ball back, scored on the ensuing drive right as time expired in the third quarter to tie the game 13-13.

Hart regained momentum with a nearly six minute drive (5:56 of game time) from the start of the fourth quarter, and Taden Littleford capped the drive with a touchdown catch in the front right side of the end zone on a 3rd and 3 just outside the 10 yard line (or did he?). It would end up being the deciding play of the game as the Hart defense held steady on Downey’s final drive.

Congratulations to coach Mike Herrington on his 300th win as head coach of the Hart Indians!

Newbury Park (3-2): 27

Golden Valley (5-0): 55

Johnathan Kaelin dominated from start to finish, scoring six touchdowns as the Grizzlies routed Newbury Park. Golden Valley is 5-0 for the first time in program history.

It will be a battle of 5-0 teams at Harry Welch Stadium next week: West Ranch vs Golden Valley

Valencia (2-3): 7

7 Calabasas (3-2): 35

Valencia stumbles into Foothill League play next week having lost three in a row for the first time this decade. The Vikings lone bright spot in the game was a 45 yard interception return for touchdown by Jonathan Tcheumani.

The Vikings typically formidable offense has managed just 24 points in three games since opening with back-to-back 60+ point performances.

They should have an easier time moving the ball next week at home against Canyon.

Canyon (2-3): 35

Royal (1-5): 30

Royal scored 20 points in the second half to make things interesting, but Canyon hung on to squeek out their second win of the season.

The Cowboys scored all five of their touchdowns on the ground, led by quarterback Aydyn Litz (three rushing touchdowns).

Canyon’s Foothill League opener will be their toughest game yet, on the road at an angry Valencia team.

St. Pius X-St. Matthias (4-0): 48

Trinity Classical Academy (4-1): 34

Trinity was down big early and couldn’t find their typical offensive rhythm. The No. 2 team in Division 14 goes down for the first time this season.
