Week Four

Turnovers Cost Saugus In Loss To St. Francis

St. Francis (3-1): 28

Saugus (3-2): 7

Saugus didn’t get on the board til a Julian Bornn rushing touchdown early in the fourth quarter, struggling with turnovers on offense all night long. It’s the Centurions second consecutive home loss this season.

Jason Bornn and Co. now look ahead to a bye week to shore up the offensive miscues before a big showdown against Hart in the Foothill League opener (10/4).

Valencia Humbled In Home Loss To Loyola

Loyola (2-2): 29

Valencia (2-2): 14

A rare second straight loss for Larry Muir’s team, and a credit to Loyola which was the more physical team from the opening kickoff.

The Valencia offense put together one great drive in the fourth quarter, and other than that was full of mistakes for most of the evening; the Vikings had four dropped passes in the first half, and quarterback Ryan Morrison was under pressure most of the night.

Jake Santos scored both touchdowns, the lone bright spot offensively.

It doesn’t get any easier, as the Vikings travel to No. 7 Calabasas next week for their annual showdown with the Coyotes.

Hart (2-2): 34

St. Bonaventure (3-2): 28

The Indians raced out to a 28-7 halftime lead before the Seraphs stormed back in the second half to tie the game at 28-28 with 3:21 left in the fourth quarter.

Then came Zach Johnson’s biggest moment of the season to date: a 50 yard bomb to Titus Tucker for the go-ahead touchdown with 1:35 remaining in the game, extra point was no good. Hart’s defense came through in the final seconds and just like that a rejuvenated Indians are 2-2.

Showing more balance on offense, Taden Littleford scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and Johnson threw for three.

The Indians host Downey next week going for their third straight win.

Simi Valley (3-2): 27

Canyon (1-3): 17

It was a tale of two halves for Canyon. The Cowboys looked strong in the first half and led 17-14 at the break.

However, things would fall apart in the second half, and the Cowboys were unable to move the ball and ultimately go down for their third loss of the season.

They’ll have a chance to get back on track against Royal (1-4) next week.

Golden Valley (4-0): 56

Chatsworth (2-2): 14

Johnathan Kaelin (3 total touchdowns) and the Grizzlies are off to their best start since 2016 and look like a playoff team in Division 6 to this point in the season.

Kaelin was dominant in the first half, and GV never looked back after a 28-7 firt quarter lead.

The Grizzlies will go for a program best 5-0 start next week, hosting Newbury Park (3-1).

West Ranch (5-0): 50

St. Genevieve (3-2): 7

West Ranch completes the non-league portion of their schedule perfect after a fifth straight rout, and have started 5-0 for the second season in a row. The Wildcats have yet to be tested this season, which could pose a problem as they prepare for the Foothill League where the competition will increase exponentially.

It begins with Golden Valley at Harry Welch Stadium, Coach Varner’s old stomping grounds, on October 4th.

Morningside (0-4): 25

Trinity Classical Academy (4-0): 28

Rick Roberts threw for four more touchdown passes as the Knights hung on at Cougar Stadium to remain perfect on the season.

Trinity has a big test next week, hosting St. PiusX-St. Matthias Academy next Friday.
