The Vikings Run On The Grizzlies To Get The Win

The Valencia Vikings hold off the Golden Valley Grizzlies in a 42-14 victory.

The Vikings started off strong, scoring a touchdown in the 1st quarter from running back Daniel Hernandez who got a 3-yard carry into the end zone, making the score 7-0.

Valencia wide receiver Ralph Testa would score his first touchdown of the night, with a 10 yard pass from quarterback Trey Erickson into the end zone with 4:30 minutes left in the first quarter.

Golden Valley did not fall too far behind the Vikings, as Grizzly wide receiver and star player, Ajani Smith got a 55-yard run into the end zone for touchdown with a minute left in the quarter, making the score 14-7 after the extra point from kicker Keven Cabrera.

Starting off the 2nd quarter, Golden Valley makes another tremendous play as tight end Nicholas Curry gets an interception at the 30 yard line in Viking Territory, but gets just short of a touchdown.

Valencia capitalized on the Grizzlies failure to get into the end zone and strike up a nice play down field as wide receiver Deandre Kermah picked up a 20-yard pass into the end zone for a touchdown, making the score 21-7 after the extra point from kicker Cameron Fontal.

The game goes into halftime with a 21-14 score after Golden Valley quarterback Christopher Melkonian scrambles into the end zone with 49 seconds on the clock.

In the 4th quarter, the Vikings get another interception, this time, it’s linebacker Jack Gieser on the pick at the 25 yard line in Grizzly territory.

Viking running back Daniel Hernandez dominated the 4th quarter, getting 2 touchdowns, 80 yards and all in under 5 minutes.

When asked about Daniel Hernandez and his amazing performance in the game, he said “our running game is the key to everything we do.”

The Vikings came out victorious, with a huge victory, and when coach Larry Muir was asked about the victory he said, “I thought it was a very physical game going back and forth in the first half, we started fast but then it kind of got away from us, but all the credit to Golden Valley because their a really good team, but then in the second half out defense really stepped up.”

Larry Muir recently celebrated winning the CIFSS Champion of Character Award and he says working with this team this season “has been challenging so far but it’s a great group of people and they keep getting better and all the credit to them for always getting better and doing a good job.”

In their next upcoming game against West Ranch, Coach Muir is looking forward to staying “focused on the process” confident that they will be ready to face up against the Wildcats.
