In their Foothill League home opener Valencia (5-1) defeated Castaic (4-2) 48-14 on Friday night.
Senior running back Tony Testa had a stellar night leading the team with a trio of touchdowns.
“Tony Testa is a special player on our team that can do anything,” said Valencia Head Coach Larry Muir. “He can play receiver, linebacker, running back and quarterback. He does it all.”
Both defenses ruled the field with only one touchdown being scored in the first quarter.
The sole touchdown of the quarter came from Valencia running back Brain Bonner.
To open the second quarter Testa found the back of the endzone for his first touchdown of the night.
Down 14-0 and backed up in their own endzone, Castaic fumbled the ball and Valencia’s Jake Pikor recovered to extend the Vikings lead 21-0.
Less than five minutes later the Vikings would score yet another touchdown to pull ahead 28-0.
In a frenzy the Coyotes offense hurried down the field and ended their drive with a touchdown run from their quarterback Tyler Lewis, to cut into Valencia’s 28-7 lead.
After that drive Valencia went on to score 21 unanswered points with two touchdowns coming from Testa and one from Jackson Askins.
“We didn’t play well enough to win the game, not even close,” said Castaic Head Coach Sirr Shakir. “They were a better team than us, they outplayed us, honestly Larry (Valencia head coach) out coached me. I have to get better. It starts with me.”
With less than two minutes in the game Castaic found Logan Mietzner in the endzone to bring the game to the eventual final score of 48-14.
“We have to start by getting better tomorrow when we watch film and fix some of this stuff,” said coach Shakir. “We don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves, we have to get ready to play ball.”
Valencia is set to play Golden Valley Friday Sept. 29 at Canyon High School starting at 7 p.m.
Castaic is set to host Canyon Thursday Sept. 28 at Valencia High School with kickoff at 7 p.m.
