Girls Basketball: Canyon Rains Three’s All Night In Victory Against West Ranch

Canyon dominated West Ranch on both offensive and defensive ends of the floor by scoring nine 3-pointers and held the Wildcats to just 16 points in the third quarter to win the game 66-23.

From the beginning, Canyon came out firing three’s, as Sophomore Jordan Wise scored the first three pointer and the first points of the game to show the West Ranch Wildcats just what they had in store.

Freshman Kiki Taufaasau scored back-to-back threes soon after and the long range shots continued to rain down from then on throughout the evening.

Taufaasau finished with 17 points and three steals, and Wise ended the game with five points and an incredible ten steals.

“I think when we get really up and excited and are having fun then that is when our shots really start falling and with this game, we were up and our energy was high,” said Taufaasau, “so we were just knocking them down because we do that when we are having so much fun.”

The score was 27-16 at halftime and the Cowboys never looked back.

Canyon remained aggressive on the defensive end so much that West Ranch was unable to score a point in the third quarter.

West Ranch managed to score just seven points in the fourth, but ultimately fell to the Cowboys, 66-23.

“We talked about it at halftime because we gave up 16 points in the first half and that was not great for us so we set a goal for ourselves going into the second half,” said Taufaasau, “so I think we are going to set more goals like that for ourselves in the next game.

As far as carrying over their momentum into the next game Coach Haayer said, “I think they know what to do. Not to mention we are playing for league, so we are playing for first or second at this point. We gotta play. They want to win and they know how to win and we will show it to them on Tuesday.”

Canyon plays against Golden Valley on Tuesday, January 22 at 5 p.m.
