The Saugus Centurions managed to hold the Golden Valley Grizzlies to just six points at halftime and dominated their opponent on the defensive end to win on Senior Night, 52-28.
The Saugus Seniors being honored in their final home game included Evie Rodriguez, Danielle Wilkes, Alexis Jimenez, and Ashlyn Canel.
The Centurions built a big first quarter lead thanks to some suffocating defense, giving up just two points for an 11-2 lead.
As the second quarter rolled around, the Centurions more than doubled their points and only allowed the Grizzlies just six points going into halftime, 27-6.
Saugus Head Coach Jason Conn had more to elaborate on his team’s impressive defensive effort in the first half of the contest.
“They were moving their feet, they were working hard, they were rebounding the ball, and they were really into the game. The second half we gave up 22 points and that is too many. Then they kind of lost their focus and they might have been more worried about scoring rather than defense,” said Coach Conn.
Out of the break is where the Grizzlies did most of their damage with 15 third quarter points; however, the Saugus lead proved to be too steep a climb.
The fourth quarter ended with the Centurions’ defense capping a strong performance for the 52-28 victory.
Saugus faces Canyon on the road Tuesday at 5 p.m. going for their third straight win.
