Saugus Cheer Wins CIF-SS Division 4A Championship

The Saugus High School varsity competitive cheer team took home the Division 4A CIF-Southern Section (CIF-SS) Ford Traditional Competitive Cheerleading Championship title at King High School in Riverside on Saturday.

The team’s big finish to close the season also helped propel them up the CIF-SS final rankings for the season.

Saugus ultimately finished as the second-ranked team in Division 1AA according to the final standings, behind only Mater Dei High School.

That finish in the rankings mirrored their 2019 experience at the inaugural CIF competitive cheerleading championship, where the team finished second in Division 1AA behind Mater Dei.

This year marked the second season since CIF-SS officials recognized cheerleading as a sport.

While the CIF season ends with the conclusion of this competition, Saugus cheer is not done competing for the year.

The Centurions are scheduled to appear in multiple national cheer competitions to close out the year, including the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida from Feb. 7-9.

That competition is expected to be available for streaming online.

The complete, final CIF-SS competitive cheer rankings are available here.
