Santa Clarita Christian Looks To Complete First 10-0 Football Season Tonight

On the brink of history, the undefeated Santa Clarita Christian Cardinals (9-0, 4-0) face off against the visiting Southlands Christian Eagles (2-7, 1-3) tonight at 7:30 at Cougar Stadium of COC.

Everything is on the line tonight for the Cardinals, as first year head coach Chazz Anderson looks to guide and be the first SCCS team to go undefeated in 11-man football.

This marks a great feat for tSCCS  as the program was still playing 8-man football a little over six years ago under then Head Coach Garrick Moss.

This year has been a revelation for SCCS as they have been not only winning, but dominating the competition heading into their last regular season game against the Eagles tonight.

With a surprising breakout year for first year varsity quarterback junior Blake Kirshner, the Cardinals are outscoring their opponents 333-140.

Kirshner has amassed over 3,000 yards through the air while averaging 350 yards per game and has 36 touchdowns with one game left in the regular season and the CIF Southern Section Division 13 playoffs ahead.

He has only thrown two or less TDs in a game twice this year, and last week he recorded a seven-touchdown game against Fairmont Prep.

The toughest test so far for Kirshner and the Cardinal was against the reigning San Jaoquin league champions Saddleback Valley Christian, a school which the Cardinals had never beaten until this year.

Kirshner was able to get the Cardinals focused, grinding out a narrow 22-19 away win, completing 27-51 passes for 409 yards and two touchdowns.

Since that game, the Cardinals have outscored their next three opponents,154-40 with a shutout mixed in; during the stretch, Kirshner posted a 15:3 touchdown to INT ratio.

Heading into the final game of the regular season, the Cardinals will have to rely on Kirshner’s ability to distribute the ball more than ever with the absence of two of the team’s top four wideouts in Caden Brenner and Ethan Schwesinger, as they are injured and unable to play.

Can the Cardinals make school history and get to 10-0? Find out in Thursday Night Football, tonight at Cougar Stadium.
