Santa Clarita Sports Report – January 3, 2017

Santa Clarita High School Basketball

Girls Basketball

Canyon (13-2): 89

Highalnd: 21

The Cowboys throttled the Bulldogs on the road to pick up their tenth straight win. Talia Taufassau had one of her best stat lines of the season with 22 points, 11 assists and 8 assists, while fellow senior Gabriela Sanchez scored 20 points on 10 of 12 shooting from the field.

Canyon hosts Ribet Academy (16-2), the top ranked team in Division 2A, Thursday at 7:00.

Village Christian: 60

Hart (9-7): 46

The Indians led 36-35 after three quarters, but were outscored 25-10 in the fourth quarter by the Crusaders in a disappointing finish at home.

Hart takes on Granada Hills Charter Thursday in the final tune-up before Foothill League play begins.

Wednesday’s schedule:

Pacifica vs Saugus (14-1) at 5:30

Saugus is going for its fourteenth straight victory.

Valencia (6-8) vs Ribet Academy at 7:00

The Vikings visit the No. 1 team in Division 2A still looking for their first true road win of the season.

Trinity (5-2) vs Milken at 5:00

The Knights play Milken in the first of a back-to-back.

Wednesday’s schedule:

Knight vs Hart (8-4) at 6:30

The Indians try for their fifth win in six games against the visiting Hawks.

Saugus (10-4) vs Village Christian at 7:00

The Centurions take their 8-game winning streak to Village Christian where the struggling Crusaders are just 1-14 on the season.

El Camino Real: 6

Hart (5-6-1): 1

The Indians suffered their worst defeat of the season at home on Tuesday.

Highland: 1

Canyon (1-8-1): 0

The woes continue for the Cowboys, who struggled after a first half goal from the Bulldogs.

Trinity (2-4): 1

Lancaster Baptist: 4

The Knights couldn’t recover after conceding three first half goals.

Girls Soccer

Valencia (4-1-4): 2

Palisades: 1

The Vikings got off to a good start in the El Camino Classic, and will play the hosts tomorrow.

Hart (7-4): 1

Notre Dame: 4

It was always going to be a stiff challenge for the Indians to get a result at Notre Dame, where the Knights are a perfect 5-0 on the season.
