Santa Clarita Sports Report: October 22, 2014

The Hart girls volleyball team is still rolling.

The Hart girls swept Canyon, 3-0, and are undefeated in first place in the Foothill League standings.

Hart is 6-0 in league after beating Valencia last week.

Sarah Greenland had seven kills and 19 digs for Hart in the match against Canyon.

In other matches in the Foothill League, Valencia swept West Ranch and Saugus beat Golden Valley.

Valencia improved to 15-2 overall and 5-1 in league. Lindsey Knudsen had 13 kills and 18 digs for Valencia.

The Saugus girls swept Golden Valley. Jessica Jimenez had 10 kills for Saugus. The Saugus girls are 13-8 overall and 4-2 in league.

In high school tennis, the Valencia girls continued their undefeated season with a 15-3 win over Canyon.

All three doubles teams for Valencia swept their matches.

Valencia is 17-0 and 9-0 in the Foothill League. They can wrap up the Foothill League championship with a win over Hart on Thursday.

The Hart girls tennis team beat Golden Valley, 16-2. Hart improved to 13-2 overall and 8-1 in league.

The West Ranch girls tennis team beat Saugus, 11-7. West Ranch is 10-5 overall and 5-4 in league.

In the major leagues, the Giants beat the Royals, 7-1, in Game 1 of the World Series.

World Series News

Hunter Pence hit a two-run home run for the Giants in the first inning. He was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Hart High graduate James Shields took the loss for the Royals. He went three innings and have up five runs on seven hits.

Game 2 of the World Series is tonight in Kansas City.
