COC Women’s Soccer
The Cougars are off to a 2-0 start to the season after a 2-0 shutout over Long Beach City College in the Nike Soccer Community College Showcase (at Ventura College).
COC has scored six goals and allowed none so far in the young season. Saturday, the Cougars face Evergreen Valley in Game 2 of the Showcase tournament.
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers “Dog Days of Summer” slump continued Thursday, suffering an 8-1 defeat and a series sweep to the D-Backs. For the third game in a row, a Dodgers starter was chased early, this time it was Kenta Maeda who lasted just three innings and gave up seven earned runs.
Even on a five-game losing streak, Los Angeles remains a full 50 games above .500 at 91-41.
Alas, Dodgers fans can rejoice for none other than Clayton Kershaw (back) returns to the mound Friday night in San Diego. Kershaw hasn’t pitched since exiting the July 23rd game (home against the Atlanta Braves) after two innings.
The Dodgers and Padres will play four games over the next three days with a double-header on Saturday. First pitch tonight is at 7:10.
