College of the Canyons

Women’s Soccer: Canyons (5-5-3) had no answer for Citrus (9-4) in their Friday matchup, as the Cougars were rocked for a 5-1 loss. The Owls had two goals in the first half and another three in the second. Canyons was only able to prevent the shutout late in the second half on an unassisted Andrea Marruffo goal (‘73). The Cougars’ next chance to return to form comes on Tuesday on the road against Glendale (5-8-1).

Men’s Soccer: The Cougars’ (1-9-1) struggles continued Friday against Glendale (9-5-2), as they lost 2-1. Canyons got on the board first with a goal in the 16th minute from Enrique Gutierrez but Glendale rallied back with two goals in the second half to steal the match. The Cougars’ next opportunity to get their second win of the season comes Tuesday afternoon against Taft (3-7-3).

Women’s Volleyball: COC (9-7) dropped a game to Bakersfield (15-2) in three sets on Friday. The Cougars struggled to hold off the Renegades’ attack in the sweep, losing by scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 25-15. They have a chance to bounce back Wednesday on the road against West Los Angeles College.

The Master’s University

Women’s Soccer: The Mustangs (8-3-3) came up with a big win in overtime on Saturday over the sixth-ranked team in their conference, Westmont (10-2-1). The Warriors scored first, but Master’s tied it up early in the second half with a Suzanne Mabie header off a corner from Sarah Stead. A Westmont goal in the 86th minute nearly put the game out of reach, but Master’s responded with a quick goal two minutes later from Mabie to force overtime. The Mustangs ended it shortly into the extra period with a Kyndel Borman goal in the 93rd minute. They’ll look to carry their momentum into their next matchup Wednesday against Hope International University (7-8).

Men’s Soccer: Master’s (6-5-2) had a war of attrition with fourth-ranked Westmont (10-1-1) as the game ultimately ended in a 0-0 draw in double overtime. Mustang keeper Price Anderson kept the Warriors out of the goal all afternoon, as he came up with eight saves for his team. Next Master’s goes on the road to take on Hope International University (10-4).

Women’s Volleyball: The Mustangs (14-9) fell on the road in five sets to Hope International University (16-7) on Saturday.
