Saugus Defeats West Ranch And Continues Winning Streak 4-0 This Season

The Saugus Centurions continue their dominance this season with their fourth win, this time with nearly double the points against the West Ranch Wildcats 42-21.

The Saugus Centurions defeated the West Ranch Wildcats Thursday night 41-21, setting their current score at 4-0 this season, while competitor West Ranch remains at 1-3. Saugus’ last game on April 1 against Golden Valley ended 14-7, while West Ranch’ last game on April 3 against Canyon resulted in a 33-20 win.

Thursday’s game, which began at 7 p.m., began with Saugus running back Vinny Gallagher kicking off the Centurion’s edge in the first quarter by finding himself in the end zone eight yards out.

Junior wide receiver Sebastian Dallaire helped the Centurions increase their lead to 14-0 with a notable one-handed grab off an 11-yard pass from senior quarterback Colton FitzGerald.

Gallagher continued the Centurion’s dominance and snagged a touchdown rush from 8 yards out after a short punt gave Saugus the ball.

While not scoring any points in the first quarter, West Ranch was still able to throw a 28-yard pass on 2nd and 4th and a 40-yard pass on 2nd and 11.

Junior running-back Derek Miranda, who finished the night with 50 yards on 15 carries, helped the Wildcats retaliate by driving a total of 79 yards.

Saugus converted on a trick play on 4th-and-5 from the West Ranch 10-yard line. Dallaire swung around the backfield to grab a reverse toss and found a streaking FitzGerald up the right sideline for the score.

With 5:33 remaining in the fourth quarter, Wildcat running back Ike Sibal responded to the Centurions with an intense 5-yard rushing touchdown.

The Centurions reciprocated with a 16-yard touchdown run from sophomore running back Jake Viger before the Wildcats snagged a 7-yard pass for a score towards the back-end of the fourth quarter.

Gallagher ended the faceoff with a total of 101 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries, carefully pacing the Saugus offense throughout the night.

The Wildcats were able to get a four-yard touchdown run at 2nd and 3rd and another five-yard touchdown pass at 2nd and 5 in the fourth quarter, but still lost at a total score of 41-21.

The game wrapped up with 335 total yards from West Ranch and 397 from Saugus. West Ranch also gained 215 passing yards and 120 rushing yards, with Saugus snagging 203 passing yards and 194 rushing yards.

West Ranch is set to conclude the regular season at 7 p.m. next Thursday against Hart High, and Saugus is scheduled to face Foothill League contender Valencia next Friday at 7 p.m. for the league crown.
