“Last year we were definitely a new team. We had a lot of freshman,” said sophomore Monique Febles. “This year I have high hopes for the team and I think we are going to be pretty good if we keep on working hard and really getting our teamwork down.”

Head Coach Jason Conn is banking on his experienced starters to make up for losing their leading scorer, Maryrose Elias.

Elias was the workhorse of last year’s team averaging a team high 20.6 ppg and only scored in single digits three times that season.

While losing such a dynamic player to graduation might be difficult, Conn’s expectation for the 2017-18 season are within reach.

“I would love to finish first [in our division], there’s no doubt. My goal is to go 7-3, that would be a great number for the program,” said Conn.

By scheduling scrimmages against the Boys’ Freshmen team every Tuesday, Conn is preparing the girls for grueling Foothill League schedule.

“I scheduled a hard summer where we are playing as many good teams as we can because that is only going to get us better when league comes around,” said Conn.

  1. I am a proud Grannie of 7 GRANDkids fortunately all living in Santa Clarita!! I enjoyed the video of the Saugus Girls’ Basketball program. My GRANDdaughter – Libbie McMahan – is on the varsity basketball and softball teams starting as a Freshman and LOVED both seasons. We feel these talented teams are more like ‘family’ and the girls all have a great relationship and the memories made will last a lifetime. Libbie’s mother Cathi was Times Woman of the Year while playing basketball at Bell-Jefferson in Burbank and is so proud of Libbie as she follows in her footsteps!! Our family is looking forward to both upcoming seasons!!
Santa Clarita has the best programs whether in the schools or with the parks. My oldest GRANDson played on the Varsity baseball team at Saugus, I have 3 GRANDsons playing football as well as baseball and basketball. My husband John was an avid golfer AND our GRANDson Taylor (as well as playing basketball) is a member of the JR. PGA and a member at the Valencia Country Club. He competes this coming Thursday at the Los Angeles Country Club representing Valencia CC. SO I am a proud Grannie and consider it a gift to live here in Santa Clarita where ‘Family’ is so important.
I miss waking up to George in the morning on my hometown station – I wish him well in his endeavors and I know Tori will be as wonderful following on the ‘mike’ for George. Thank you HOMETOWN STATION for all you do for our community! Sincerely, Colleen
