Grissom who graduated from Quartz Hill High School, went on to play at Pierce College and later played in the minor leagues for the Arizona Yuma Miners.
Grissom will be joining his youngest son, Hewitt, as he is a junior on the baseball team at Saugus.
Grissom is very excited about developing the young men he will coach on and off the field, he said in a news release.
He replaces John Maggiora who served as the Centurions head coach for 12 seasons after parents voiced concerns about his coaching style.
“I’m proud of many things, but the number one thing I’m proud of is only losing one player to poor academics in 12 years,” Maggiora said. “Our players knew what it meant to be Student Athletes.”
The 12-year coach ends his Saugus coaching career with a record of 182-149-3, including eight winning seasons and a trip to the CIF-Southern Section Semifinals in 2015.
