Three Former Santa Clarita Football Players In NFL Playoffs

Three NFL players whose football roots reach back to Santa Clarita have advanced with each of their teams to the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs.

Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown

Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown played wide receiver at College of the Canyons in 2016 and turned in a solid performance in his sophomore season with the Baltimore Ravens this year.

Brown finished the regular season on a hot streak with six receiving touchdowns over the final six games of the regular season to surpass his rookie season total of seven and finish with eight on the year. In total, Brown pulled in 58 receptions for 769 yards in the regular season this year.

He had a stellar seven receptions for 109 yards to help propel the Ravens to a 20-13 win over the Tennessee Titans last week in the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs.

Now Brown and company travel to face the Buffalo Bills Saturday night at 5:15 p.m.

Jason Pierre-Paul

Another former Cougar, Jason Pierre-Paul, or JPP, played at College of the Canyons in 2007 and has gone on to become a veteran NFL starter.

At 32 years old, JPP had another productive year as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have been a different team this year with Tom Brady at the helm of the offense. JPP won his first Super Bowl as an integral member of the New York Giants defense against the New England Patriots led by Brady in 2012.

Eight years later and Pierre-Paul continues to produce with 55 tackles, 9.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and a career-high two interceptions in the 2020 regular season. He and the Buccaneers advanced to the Divisional Round with a 31-23 win over the Washington Football Team last week.

Now JPP has another shot at NFL Playoff glory and this time he won’t have to go through Brady.

Pierre-Paul and the Buccaneers now go on the road to take on the New Orleans Saints on Sunday at 3:40 p.m.

Tedric Thompson

Tedric Thompson played football at Valencia High School from 2009-2013 and has played for several teams in his pro career. Thompson spent the first three years of his career with the Seattle Seahawks.

Now in his fourth season in the league, Thompson joined the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs this offseason on a one-year deal, and was afforded some opportunities to see the field with the team.

Thompson recorded 13 tackles, 11 solo and two assisted, in six appearances as a member of the Chiefs before he was waived by the team on Nov. 28.

He was quickly claimed off of waivers by the Cleveland Browns two days later. With several weeks of practice under his belt as a member of the team, Thompson is now ready to see the field, but hasn’t yet been afforded the opportunity.

Thompson remains on the active roster however, so his opportunity may yet come as the Browns prepare to go on the road to face his former team, the Chiefs, on Sunday at 12:15 p.m.
