Two COC Football Players Named All-American Selections, Four All-State

College of the Canyons (COC) Football wide receiver Alonzell Henderson and center Jordan Palmer were selected to the 2019 California Community College Football Coaches Association (CCCFCA) All-America Team.

The pair join middle linebacker Charles Ike and quarterback Armani Edden as selections to the 2019 CCCFCA Region III All-California Community College Football Team.

Henderson and Palmer were also selected to the same All-California team, and joined Ike as unanimous selections to Southern California Football Association (SCFA) National Division, Northern League First-Team.

This year makes it the second consecutive season Canyons has had at least two players named to the All-America team after last year’s selection of kicker Tanner Brown and linebacker Tariq Speights.

The 2019 season also marks the sixth consecutive year that Canyons had at least one player named to the all-state team, according to COC officials.

Henderson finished his 2019 campaign with 57 receptions for 1,016 yards and found the endzone nine times. In seven of his 11 games this season, Henderson topped 100 yards receiving.

Palmer, meanwhile, finished the season as the second-ranked junior college center in the nation, and is now expected to join the Division 1 program at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee for next season, according to COC officials.

The Cougar defense found a productive leader in Ike this season, who led the state in solo tackles with 72. He also finished the season tied for fourth in total tackles in California with 107 total tackles.

Ike also added two sacks and 10 tackles for loss to his resume for the 2019 season.

Finally, 2019 SCFA National Division, Northern League Offensive Player of the Year Armani Edden was the engine that drove the Cougar offense all season.

Edden finished the season with 3,044 passing yards with a 63.7 completion percentage and tacked on 270 yards on the ground. His touchdown total came to 33 in 2019, 27 through the air and six rushing.

The 2019 Canyons (9-3, 4-1) season ended with a share of the 2019 National Division, Northern League championship with Ventura College (8-3, 4-1) and Long Beach College (7-3, 4-1), as well as a trip to the postseason where they ultimately fell to eventual state champion Riverside City College in the Southern California Championship game.
