W2W4 – What 2 Watch 4 – Big Games This Week In Santa Clarita Sports

What to Watch For: The biggest games in Santa Clarita sports previewed here.

Hart (11-8, 1-0) vs. Valencia (12-4, 1-0)

Boys Basketball

Friday, 6:30 p.m., Hart High School

Valencia opened Foothill League play up with a narrow win over Saugus, while Hart comfortably handled their league opener against Golden Valley, 69-46. Hart has a chance to prove they are a legitimate contender for the Foothill League title this season, while Valencia has the opportunity for a statement win after Tuesday’s close call. Valencia’s Noah Veluzat will look to carry the momentum from his 24-point outing into this next game as both teams vie to extend their Foothill League win streak to two games.

Saugus (13-4, 1-0) vs. Westlake (13-5, 1-0)

Girls Basketball

Saturday, 5 p.m., Burroughs High School

The Centurions proved they are for real with a win over Valencia on Tuesday to open up league play, their first win against the Vikings in eight seasons. Now they stare down the barrel of a tough challenge as they are matched up with a Westlake team that knows how to win to start the girls basketball tournament at Burroughs High School this weekend. Before they hit the road for the tournament, Saugus has a chance to pick up their second league win on Thursday at home against West Ranch.

Valencia (4-4-2, 0-0-1) vs. Hart (12-1-2, 1-0)

Girls Soccer

Thursday, 5 p.m., Valencia High School

Hart has gotten out to an incredible start to the season as they’ve ripped off 12 wins in 15 games. Most recently they poured on an absolutely scoring barrage to open up Foothill League play with an 8-0 win over Golden Valley on Tuesday. Valencia has stumbled somewhat as of late, as they haven’t notched a win in their last four matches. The home game offers the Vikings an opportunity to settle down and try to get a win, while Hart looks to continue their offensive dominance.

Valencia Flyers (3-25-2) vs. Vegas Thunderbirds (14-10-1)

Ice Hockey

Things are not looking favorably for Valencia in the standings, but despite their struggles, they continue to improve. In December, they pushed the western division-leading Fresno Monsters to the absolute limit in consecutive 4-3 losses. “Moral victories” may not exist in sports, but it proves that this team can hang in there with the best of them. After a long and grueling road trip, the Flyers return home to the Ice Station for a Thursday evening matchup with the Las Vegas Thunderbirds. Their homestand will then continue with a three-game clash against the San Diego Sabres this weekend.
