Eastwind Screenprint Raises Over $12,000 For Saugus High Shooting Victims

Eastwind Screenprint presented a check for over $12,000 to the Santa Clarita Coalition for Saugus High shooting victims on Friday, totaling over $32,000 donated in the last month alone.

Laura Munoz, who runs the Saugus Strong Facebook group, presented a check for $12,788.56 to the Santa Clarita Coalition Friday.

“Our fundraising is ongoing for at least a year,” Munoz said. “We’re going to keep it up for as long as we can.”

Two weeks prior, Munoz presented a similar check for $20,000 during the Light Up Main Street event. Those two checks combined total over $32,000 that is set to go directly to victims of the Saugus High shooting.

“The first $20,000 was a big deal,” Munoz said. “But the checks are going to keep coming.”

Eastwind Screenprint is a custom screen printing company that has created “Saugus Strong” clothing that residents can buy on their online store. All of the money raised through purchases of the “Saugus Strong” apparel goes into a fund set up by Eastwind, which is set to be donated to victims of the Saugus High shooting.

“As soon as it gets to a certain amount, we’ll cut another check to donate to the coalition,” Munoz said.

While people can buy t-shirts, jackets and sweaters online, residents can pick up other unique “Saugus Strong” items for a limited time at the Wildflower Beauty Bar at the Westfield Valencia Town Center, according to officials.

“The shirts are great and great for fundraising, but I wanted to give our local community something different,” Munoz said.

These items include hats, beanies and coffee mugs, and can only be purchased in the store until Dec. 31. The money raised through those purchases are kept separate and delivered to Eastwind, according to officials.

“We just want to make sure that everybody is taken care of, no matter what,” Munoz said.

Munoz went on to describe how they have also been trying to directly help families affected by the Saugus High shooting, with aid going to the “neediest first.”

“Once the families have been secured and taken care of, we want to make sure that the counseling is taken care of for all of the students at Saugus,” Munoz said. “The coalition has been a big help in order to figure out who needs what.”

Despite the thousands of dollars Munoz has helped raise by promoting the Eastwind Saugus Strong shop on the Saugus Strong Facebook page she runs, she still wishes that she could do more.

“It doesn’t feel like it’s enough,” she said. “I want to do more. I wish I could do more.”
