College Of The Canyons Loses Power On First Day Of Fall Semester

The College of the Canyons Valencia campus lost power on the opening day of the fall semester Monday as part of a power outage impacting over 1,100 customers.

UPDATE (5:50 p.m.): Power has been reportedly restored to all customers previously impacted by the outage as of 5:50 p.m. Monday.

UPDATE (5:30 p.m.): Power has reportedly been partially restored to areas impacted by the outage, include the College of the Canyons Valencia campus.

As of 5:30 p.m. Monday, 360 of the initial 1,171 SCE customers were still impacted by the outage, with officials at College of the Canyons reporting that their power was back up.

Officials did not have an estimated time of restoration for the remaining 360 customers, nor had they determined the cause of the outage as of 5:30 p.m.

UPDATE (4:30 p.m.): Despite initial estimates, power remained out at College of the Canyons and the surrounding neighborhoods as of 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Original Post: At around 3:25 p.m., officials at the Valencia campus of College of the Canyons reported a loss of power across the campus.

Shortly afterward, a power outage was reported near the campus on the Southern California Edison (SCE) Outage Map, which impacted an estimated 1,171 customers.

Monday also marked the first day of the Fall 2020 semester for College of the Canyons, and while the majority of students are not attending classes physically on-campus, faculty and staff are still working from the campus.

Streetlights in the area are also reportedly flashing red, with deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station requested to conduct traffic control in the area.

While officials were still analyzing the problem as of 3:45 p.m. Monday, they also estimated that most should have power restored by 4:20 p.m. Monday.
