Power Outages In Castaic Expected As ‘Extreme’ Fire Conditions Return To Santa Clarita Valley

Power outages in Castaic are expected as “extreme” fire conditions return to the Santa Clarita Valley on Tuesday, officials said.

Over 1,700 Southern California Edison customers in Castaic may be affected by the power outages, according to officials with SoCal Edison.

During times of high fire conditions, Southern California Edison is expected to proactively turn off power in high fire risk areas in an effort to reduce the threat of wildfires, as part of their Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) program, according to officials.

The goal of the shutoffs is to prevent power lines from sparking a brush fire in the event that wires fall due to high winds, according to SoCal Edison.

A wind advisory has been issued from 12 a.m. Oct. 22 to 12 p.m. Oct. 23, as well as a fire weather watch from 3 a.m. Oct. 24 to 10 p.m. Oct. 25, according to officials with the National Weather Service.

Northeast winds at 15 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 30 mph, are expected from Monday night into Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service has classified the noted times as “hazardous weather conditions.”

“When weather forecasts indicate extreme weather conditions, we’ll begin assessing the potential impact to affected areas. We’ll analyze historical data to help predict the likelihood of a wildfire occurring, closely monitor weather watch alerts from the National Weather Service, and place incident responders on alert, if needed,” according to the SoCal Edison PSPS site.

  1. Global Warming/Climate Change is the excuse that let’s all these political leaders off the hook for all their stupid regulations and limits on clearing dead wood and brush because of Climate Change legislation. A total fraud is disrupting our lives, raising gas prices (taxes and regulations on our fuel) it’s time to plan to leave this circus called California, but even circuses have more common sense order than what our so called “leaders” have in store for our future. I’m planning on making an exit out of this state as soon as I can, I’m sure they will find a way to punish me for that too!

  2. Its b.s. that the power companys big solution to spending money to upgrade and maintain their equipment is to shut peoples power off in high wind areas so they don’t get sued again. That is NOT a solution! What about people who are on dialysis????

Come up with a better solution you bastards!
