Over the Labor Day weekend, SoCal Edison is asking its customers to conserve energy.
“Please help us conserve power today, particularly from 3 to 9 p.m.,” reads an official statement from SoCal Eidson (SCE). “The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) has directed SCE to reduce its electrical power load and implement demand response measures, which may include rotating outages today.”
The first suggestion for saving energy was adjusting air conditioning units up to at least 78°F and turning off unnecessary appliances from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Rotating outages typically last one hour or less and are critical to preventing longer, more widespread outages during system emergencies.
The Bridgeport neighborhood as well as an area near Valencia Town Center are on Sunday’s listed areas that may experience a rotating outage.
Here are some steps customers can take before 3 p.m. each day this holiday weekend:
- “Pre-cool” homes, or lower air conditioning thermostats.
- Charge electric vehicles before 3 p.m. or after 9 p.m.
- Charge mobile devices and laptops before 3 p.m. or after 9 p.m.
- Run dishwashers, washing machines and other major appliances before 3 p.m. or after 9 p.m.
- Set pool pumps to run in the early morning or late at night.
“Together, our conservation reduces stress on the statewide power grid and helps minimize the need for CAISO rotating outages,” reads the SoCal Edison release.
