UPDATE: 6:25 p.m. — All lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway are now open, according to the California Highway Patrol.

UPDATE: 5:04 p.m — The CHP has issued a SigAlert update, claiming both number 4 and 5 lanes will be blocked for two hours due to the vehicle fire.

The brush fire, dubbed the Weldon Fire, was first reported around 3:50 p.m. as a big rig fire on the northbound 5 Freeway about a mile north of the 14 Freeway, said Marvin Lim, a spokesperson with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“The big rig that was well-involved spread to the brush on (the) right shoulder,” Lim said.

Firefighters were able to hold the fire to an eighth of an acre, according to Fire officials.

The forward progression of the fire was stopped at 4:08 p.m.

As a result of the fire, the California Highway Patrol has issued a SigAlert, closing the No. 3, 4 and 5 northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway at Weldon Canyon Road until approximately 5:45 p.m., according to officials.
