A well-involved big rig fire on the I-5 Freeway near the Newhall Pass has prompted a response from firefighters, impacting traffic Tuesday.

Around 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, first responders received reports of a big rig fire on the northbound 5 Freeway south of Calgrove Boulevard near the Newhall Pass, said Leslie Lua, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“Our units arrived on scene and found a well-involved tractor,” Lua said.

The fire spread to a small patch of grass which was quickly extinguished by firefighters, according to officials.

As a result of the truck fire, the No. 3, 4 and 5 lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway were blocked for an undetermined amount of time, according to officials.
