A brush fire dubbed the Haskell incident broke out Saturday afternoon in Saugus in Haskell Canyon Open Space, prompting road closures.  

At around 2:53 p.m. firefighters received reports of a brush fire on the northside of Copper Hill Drive and Benz Road, near Haskell Canyon according to Miguel Ornelas with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. 

“The fire is being held at half an acre,” said Ornelas. 

Wind speeds were reported to be around 20 miles per hour, with the half acre fire running uphill in medium brush. 

According to Ornelas, as of 3:07 p.m. forward progress of the fire has stopped. 

As a result of the fire both sides of Copper Hill Drive were shut down and remains closed as of 3:20 p.m. Units remain on scene as of 3:20 p.m.

No structures have been reported as threatened and no injuries have been reported.
