Live fire is being used to train at Wayside, where the Los Angeles County Fire Department is holding Wildland Fire Training from June 14-30, according to a statement from Stephanie English, spokeswoman for the LACoFD.
“The ‘Spring Drills’ are an annual training opportunity held at the Peter Pitchess Honor Rancho in Castaic,” according to the statement. “This training opportunity allows firefighters to practice their skills, reinforce emergency communications, improve risk-management decision-making and strengthen fire-attack skills.”
Approximately 100 firefighters will be training daily in the area, according to fire officials, and they will be aided by helicopters that will be training for water drops.
Fire officials are mindful of weather conditions, and the drills will not be conducted in dangerous conditions.
Fire officials also took the occasion to offer several seasonal reminders, with fire season around the corner. Anyone interested in more information can visit the county Fire Department’s website, and use this guide for creating a Personal Wildfire Action Plan.
