A small brush fire broke out in Newhall near the 14 Freeway Sunday night after fireworks were reportedly set off in the area.
Just after 9:40 p.m. Sunday, officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department received reports of a brush fire near Placerita Canyon Road and Sierra Highway, just next to the 14 Freeway.
“It’s a very small spot right between the 14 Freeway and Sierra Highway,” said Supervisor Pittman with the department.

The blaze, which was later dubbed the 14 Fire, grew to about a 200 ft. x 200 ft. spot in size before forward progress was stopped, according to Pittman.
Reports from the California Highway Patrol traffic logs indicate that fire was reportedly sparked by several pedestrians who were setting off fireworks in the area.
No injuries or significant damage had been reported as of 10:05 p.m. Sunday.

Probably those from Palmdale/Lancaster on there way back from the protests in Los Angeles, Santa Monica, Long Beach, etc. – and decided they wanted to start some fires in the Santa Clarita Valley by throwing fireworks from their vehicles while on the 14.
