A fully-engulfed big rig fire has spread to the surrounding brush near the 5 Freeway in the Grapevine Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
UPDATE: 7:05 p.m. — The No. 1 and 2 lanes are now open on the northbound 5 Freeway at Cherry Canyon, with the No. 3 and 4 lanes set to remain closed until 11 p.m. Wednesday night, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol.

UPDATE: 5:00 p.m. — One lane has been opened for the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway, according to traffic logs from the California Highway Patrol.
UPDATE: 4:25 p.m. — All southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway are now open, with northbound traffic remaining shut down at Lake Hughes Road.
UPDATE: 4:15 p.m. — The Sig Alert has been extended to both sides of the 5 Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The northbound 5 Freeway is closed at Lake Hughes Road and the southbound I-5 is closed at Smokey Bear Road, according to the CHP.
A hazardous material response has been requested by the CHP for an unknown substance, according to CHP logs.
Original Story: The fire was reported at about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday off the northbound 5 Freeway near Vista Del Lago, according to Franklin Lopez with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“From the copter, they reported a quarter-acre,” Lopez said.
There is a slow, calm wind in the area, with the brush fire spreading slowly, according to Fire officials.
As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, all lanes on the northbound 5 Freeway near Cherry Canyon Road are temporally closed for an unknown duration, according to the California Highway Patrol.
