UPDATE: 7:30 a.m. Thursday — The Lake Fire is now estimated to be 10,500 acres in size with 0percent containment, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Three structures have been destroyed and over 5,400 structures remained threatened.
Road closures and evacuation remain in place.
UPDATE: 8:50 p.m. –– Fire officials stated during a Wednesday night press conference that the current burn area of the Lake Fire on the west part of Lake Hughes has not burned since 1968. Angeles National Forest Fire Chief Robert Garcia compared it to the Powerhouse Fire in 2013 which burned on the east side of Lake Hughes, and grew to more than 30,000 acres and destroyed 53 structures.
“In terms of rate of spread and the environment and the intensity of this fire… it was similar conditions known as the Powerhouse Fire. That fire (while) burning had similar fuel conditions and similar weather conditions,” said Garcia.
Over 500 firefighters are responding to the incident as of Wednesday night, with about 100 evacuations in place in the Lake Hughes area.
UPDATE 8:19 p.m. — New road closures due to the Lake Fire are now in place in the area of Three Points at Pine Canyon Road, Highway 138 and Three Points Road, Ridge Route Road and Lake Hughes Road, Lake Hughes Road and Parker Road, Three Points Road and Ridge Route Road, and San Francisquito Road from Stater Lane to Spunky Canyon Road, according to Carrie Lujan, spokesperson for the City of Santa Clarita.
UPDATE: 7:20 p.m. — Those evacuating because of the Lake Fire can go to Highland High School 39055 25th Street West Palmdale, 9355.
“Residents will stay in cars. Small animals welcome however will remain in cars. No Animal Care services available,” read an official statement from Carrie Lujan, spokesperson for the City of Santa Clarita.

UPDATE: 6:00 p.m. — The Lake Fire north of Santa Clarita in Lake Hughes has now reached an estimated 7,000 acres, with no containment in “rugged terrain,” according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

UPDATE: 5:20 p.m. — Evacuations due to the Lake Fire are now in place in the area of Lake Hughes Road West of Pine Canyon Road and South of Dry Gulch Road, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
UPDATE: 5:15 p.m. — The Lake Fire has grown to an estimated 6,000 acres, with evacuations still in place, according to Fire officials.

UPDATE: 4:38 p.m. — Structures are now reportedly threatened due the Lake Fire, according to officials with the Angeles National Forest.

Officials with the California Highway Patrol have closed down both directions of Lake Hughes Road near the Lake Fire.
UPDATE (4:32 p.m.): The Lake Fire has grown to 400 acres in size, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
UPDATE (4:25 p.m.): Fire officials are currently working with units from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to evacuate Lake Hughes residents living north of the Lake Fire.
The blaze has the potential to reach 1,000 acres in size.
UPDATE (4:02 p.m.): A second-alarm response has been requested by officials with the Angeles Nation Forest service to combat the Lake Fire.

(Original Post): At around 3:42 p.m. Wednesday, officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were dispatched to a brush fire near North Lake Hughes Road and Pine Canyon Road.
Dubbed the “Lake Fire, the blaze produced a “significant amount of smoke” within minutes of breaking out, burning an estimated 50 acres by the time units arrived on scene, according to Franklin Lopez with the department.
No injuries or evacuations were immediately confirmed as of 3:55 p.m.
