Old Fire In Canyon Country Breaks Out Near Vasquez Canyon Road

The Old Fire in Canyon Country broke out near Vasquez Canyon Road early Saturday morning, growing to over an acre in size within minutes of being reported.

At approximately 12:33 a.m. Saturday, officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department received reports of a brush fire near Sierra Highway and The Old Dirt Road, just north of Vasquez Canyon Road.

“Its about a two acre fire, moving at a moderate rate of spread,” said Supervisor Michael Pittman with the department.

A full first-alarm response was called to combat the blaze, which was later dubbed the Old Fire due to its proximity to The Old Dirt Road.

As of 1:05 a.m., firefighters on scene believed that they would be able to handle the Old Fire with the resources from the first-alarm response, Pittman added.

Forward progress was reportedly stopped on the blaze just before 1:10 a.m. Saturday.

No structures were immediately threatened, and no injuries had been reported in connection with the Old Fire as of 1:10 a.m. Saturday.

The exact cause of the Old Fire was not known as of Saturday morning.
