Update 7:20 p.m.: The Rye Fire has now increased to 80 percent contained, according to Cal Fire officials.
The Rye Fire reached 65 percent containment, holding at just over 6,000 acres, while the Creek Fire reached almost 16,000 acres in Sylmar.
The bulk of the Creek Fire has been knocked down, with 80 percent containment reached. However, firefighters are still working on cooling down hot spots, according to Capt. Chris Reade with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“We still have huge mulch piles that are smoking,” Reade said. “When we find these, we will send in a dozer team to break up the mulch, so we can get water to it.”
All evacuations were lifted Thursday evening at 8 p.m., according to Reade.
“Only residents who live in the previously evacuated areas are able to return to the neighborhoods,” the captain said. “Either LAPD or Sheriff will be checking ID.”
Friday night, firefighters continued to make progress on the Rye Fire. Mop up will continue throughout Saturday to ensure that the fire remains within the established control lines, according to fire officials.

The smaller brush fire, named after Rye Canyon Loop in Santa Clarita, where the blaze originated, is expected to be knocked down within a week, said Fire Capt. Scott Miller.
“We expect to reach full containment by Dec. 15, if the weather cooperates with us,” said Miller. “Right now, we are just putting out spots.”
Red Flag warnings in effect for much of Los Angeles County through Sunday with gusty winds and low relative humidity. Residents should remain vigilant as conditions can change quickly.
The Rye Fire displaced over 1,000 residents from their home and left almost 10,000 without power in Santa Clarita, according to fire officials.
