Soledad Fire In Canyon Country Breaks Out Near 14 Freeway

The Soledad Fire in Canyon Country broke out near the 14 Freeway and Soledad Canyon Road Sunday night, burning over an acre of land within 20 minutes, officials said.

UPDATE (12:30 a.m.): The California Highway Patrol has issued a SigAlert for the area to allow for cleanup. The No. 3 and 4 lanes of the northbound 14 Freeway are expected to remain closed for 30 minutes.

UPDATE (12:10 a.m.): The Soledad Fire has been knocked down successfully, and has been reevaluated to measure only half an acre, according to fire officials.

The brush fire, dubbed the Soledad Fire, was first reported just before 11:00 p.m. on the northbound 14 Freeway just north of Soledad Canyon Road, according to Supervisor Stafford with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“They’ve got a handle on it,” Stafford said.

The fire was at one and a half acres in size as of 11:22 p.m. Sunday, according to officials.

Forward progress of the blaze has been stopped by just before 11:30 p.m., according to fire officials.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol temporarily blocked all lanes of traffic to allow firefighters to deal with the incident.
