The Sarmiento family of Canyon Country lost their home in the Tick Fire on Oct. 24, and have since set up a GoFundMe page to help with costs as they continue on the road to recovery.
The family of four includes Diana and Diego Sarmiento, their two daughters, a 15-year-old and a 22-month-old, and their two pets, a dog and a cat.
While the Sarmientos were able to safely escape the threat of the fire, their home was ultimately lost in the blaze.

“It was not possible to save our house, and although my husband and the brave firemen tried to save it, it was burned,” said Diana Sarmiento. “It is too sad because we have obtained it with a lot of effort, dedication, a lot of work and love.”
While the family and their pets were able to evacuate, there were losses in addition to the house itself, as they were unable to bring all the belongings they would have liked to.

“We have also lost many things of sentimental value, but the most important thing is that we are all well,” Sarmiento said.
In total, the Tick Fire burned over 4,600 acres, damaged at least 44 structures and destroyed an additional 23 residential structures, one commercial building and five outbuildings.

I still have not heard the cause of the Tick Fire. Was it a small fire that started and could have been extinguished with a garden hose before it took off? Oh, wait. There was no garden hose that had water due to Edison turning off the electricity that ran the well pump. What a great way to avoid fires…..
